In this time of uncertainty and fear, God spoke to me this morning in a very real and reassuring way. I am away from home, in Arizona and a side trip to California, when home is in Michigan. This is a trip I have looked forward to for a long time. It is a girls’ week with my 3 cousins and we always have an amazing time of fun, games, shopping and a lot of laughs. So far, the first 3 days have delivered all of that. But yesterday, the pandemic effects of COVID 19 really started to get a hold of my fears. We got to California to the outlet mall we were looking forward to spending 2 days at, and most of the stores are closed or closing tonight. And the big looming question is, “Will I be able to get home? Will my flight be cancelled? How long will I be away from my family?” Don’t get me wrong, I love my cousins and the Phoenix warmth but in time of crisis there is no place like home.
So, I was sitting on the sunny patio of our AirBNB eating my breakfast when God spoke to me through a flowering bush. This pink bush was in full bloom and every flower was not just facing but reaching for the sun. I sat there and told myself, “Tawnya why are you so untrusting?” This bush holds the secret. Instead of hoarding toilet paper, soap, food and even items we don’t need, why don’t we spend time leaning in and reaching for our SON. God holds and knows the future for each living thing on this planet, and that includes you and me. Yes, we need to use our brains and the knowledge we all possess to stay healthy in this crisis, but we also have a direct connection with the Great Physician who care for us deeply. Let these verses speak to you today:
Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Philippians 4:7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
So today, I am going to reach to my God and choose to not fear. I am going to shop at what stores are open, and give thanks for the time I have with my family. I am going to have faith that God will get me home. Don’t allow the current events of crisis to overcome you. Today reach for the Son, talk to him and rest in him and he will comfort and protect you.
Blessings to you my friends!
